Participating Universities


The Universities involved in the MSc SIFC study programme are:

  • University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Life Sciences ( LIFE ), Denmark (visit homepage )
    former : The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL)
  • The Wageningen University and Research Centre ( WUR ), The Netherlands (visit homepage)
  • The University of Hohenheim ( UHOH ), Germany (visit homepage)
  • The University of Ljubljana ( LJU ), Slovenia (visit homepage)
  • The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences Uppsala ( SLU ), Sweden (visit homepage)

The modules taught at each partner university are related to its expertises and core competences.

BOKU and Ljubljana: Module B1/B5 (30 ECTS):

Module B1 will be given at BOKU each summer semester (March to July), and it will provide knowledge in the fields of

  • Food authenticity and traceability,
  • Safe nutrition including food and feed,
  • Hazard potential of food and
  • Analytical aspects of food safety.

Module B5 is organised by the University of Ljubljana in the summer semester. It will cover courses in the field of

  • Food traceability,
  • Detection of pathogens in foods and
  • Functional foods.

At least in the starting phase these lectures will be taught in cooperation with BOKU in Vienna. Therefore this Module is called Module B1/B5.

LIFE: Module B2 (30 ECTS):

Module B2 will be given at LIFE in the winter semester (September to February). It will deal with lectures and seminars in the fields of

  • Sanitation and hygienic design,
  • Processing and food-borne microorganisms
  • Risk analysis in a national and global context and
  • International food legislation and quality management.

WUR: Module B3 (30 ECTS):

At WUR Module B3 will be provided in the winter semester. It will include courses related to

  • Risk communication,
  • Epidemiology and public health,
  • Gene technology and
  • Predictive modelling.

UHOH: Module B4 (30 ECTS):

The University of Hohenheim will provide Module B4 (min. 30 ECTS), starting in summer semester 2008. Module B4 consists of special lectures and seminars related to

  • Nutrigenomics,
  • Animal hygiene,
  • Consumer behaviour, and
  • Microeconomics in the food chain.

SLU: Module B6 (30 ECTS):

An additional B-Module, Module B6, is planned by the SLU. It will deals with subjects related to primary production. Module B6 will be provided from the academic year 2009/10.
